Role of the Monitor

A Monitor is a role that may be included in a Representation Agreement. A Monitor is usually a family member or a friend who knows the adult.

A Monitor oversees the Agreement and that the Representative is following their duties. The Monitor does not make decisions but can help the Representative speak up for the adult’s wishes.

A Monitor is required by law in certain cases where the Representative is not the spouse and has the power for routine management of finances. See the Publications section about Representation Agreements: a legal plan for your well-being now.

A Monitor is not required for health and personal care – it is an option.
